Part 1: Plan Your Essay

Before writing, you make a plan. This helps you know what to say!

Step 1

Pick a Topic

When you open an essay assignment, you'll see 10 topic choices. Read them and click the one you want to write about!

Step 2

Fill In Your Plan

Your plan has three parts. Click each section to open it and fill in your ideas:

  • 🎯 Introduction
    • Hook — An interesting first sentence to grab the reader
    • Background — What the reader needs to know
    • Your Opinion — What you think about the topic
  • 📖 Body Paragraph
    • Main Reason — Your strongest reason
    • Evidence — Facts from the lesson
    • Why It Matters — Why this reason is important
  • 🏁 Conclusion
    • Restate Opinion — Say your opinion again in new words
    • Big Takeaway — What you want the reader to remember

Check the Lesson Info

On the side, you'll see helpful information about the lesson:

  • 📘 Chapter and Pages — Where to look if you need to review
  • 📝 Topics Covered — The main ideas from the lesson
  • 🔤 Key Vocabulary — Important words to use in your essay

Continue to Writing

Once you've picked a topic AND filled in at least one note, the green "Continue to Writing" button lights up. Click it!

Part 2: Write Your Essay

Now use your plan to write the real essay!

See Your Notes

On the left side, you'll see all the planning notes you just wrote. Use them as a guide while you write! Click any section to expand or collapse it.

Step 6

Write Your Essay

Type your essay in the big text box. Follow your plan:

  1. Start with your introduction (hook + background + opinion)
  2. Write the body paragraph (reason + evidence + why it matters)
  3. End with your conclusion (restate opinion + big takeaway)
Step 7

Watch the Word Count

A big number shows how many words you've written. The color tells you how you're doing:

  • 🟠 Orange (0-49 words) — Keep writing! You need at least 50 words
  • 🟣 Purple (50-99 words) — Good! You've met the minimum
  • 🟢 Green (100+ words) — Excellent! Great detail!

The color changes as you write more — aim for green!
Step 8

Save Your Draft

Click "Save Draft" anytime to save your work. Your essay also auto-saves every 30 seconds, so you won't lose anything!

Step 9

Submit Your Essay

When you're happy with your essay and have at least 50 words, click the green "Submit Essay" button. You'll see a confirmation — click OK to send it to Dad!
