👨🏫 Teacher Getting Started
Learn how to log in, navigate the teacher portal, and review student work.
Logging In
The teacher portal is protected by a PIN to keep student work secure.
Step 1: Open the Login Page
Navigate to the homeschool login page. You'll see two options: Student and Teacher.
Step 2: Enter Your PIN
A PIN pad will appear. Enter the 4-digit teacher PIN.
Default PIN: 1234. You can change this in Settings.
Step 3: Access the Teacher Portal
After entering the correct PIN, you'll see the teacher dashboard with pending submissions.
Staying Logged In
You stay logged in until you click Log Out. Nothing else signs you out:
- Closing the browser and reopening it later keeps you logged in.
- Swiping the installed app closed on your phone keeps you logged in.
- Leaving a page open for hours keeps you logged in. There is no inactivity timer.
Each device remembers its own login, so signing in on the laptop does not sign you in on the phone.
Because the login sticks, use Log Out whenever you hand the device to someone who should not see student work or teacher settings. Logging out is the only thing that clears the session, and after it a page refresh will not bring the session back.
Reopening the App
The installed app reopens on whatever page you were last on. Swipe it closed in the middle of the gradebook and the next launch puts you back in the gradebook, not on the student picker.
If there is nothing to return to, a fresh install or the first launch after logging out, you land on the family picker instead and carry on from there.
This holds however you arrive. Opening the site address, the landing page, or the login page while still signed in takes you to your last page rather than showing you a page you do not need. The login form appears only when you are actually signed out.
To reach the login form while still signed in, for instance to hand the device to someone who logs in as a student, use Back to Login from the student picker, or log out first.
If you ever do end up on the Who's Learning Today student picker, there is a Teacher link next to Back to Login that returns you to the teacher side without costing you your PIN.
Logging Out
Click Logout in the navigation bar, in the user menu at the top right on wider screens or in the hamburger menu on a phone. You will be returned to the login page and will need your PIN again.
There is no longer a Session Timeout setting in Settings. It has been removed, because sessions no longer expire.
Dashboard Overview
The teacher portal is organized into tabs that help you manage student work efficiently.
Understanding the Tabs

Understanding the Stats
At the top of the page, you'll see quick stats:
- Total Submissions - All work Lucas has submitted
- Pending Review - Work waiting for your attention
- Avg Time - Average time Lucas spends per assignment
Notifications
The bell icon 🔔 in the top navigation shows your notifications.
What Triggers Notifications
- Lucas submits new work
- You successfully return an assignment
- A follow-up is scheduled
Click the bell to see recent notifications. Unread notifications appear highlighted in light blue.
