⭐ Giving Feedback & Grades
How to provide encouraging feedback and assign grades to Lucas's work.
Two Grading Paths
After reviewing work, you have two options:
| Action | When to Use | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 🔄 Return for Revision | Work needs improvement before grading | Lucas sees "Try Again" card |
| ✅ Give Final Grade | Work is complete and ready for assessment | Lucas sees grade in "Graded" card |
The Grade Dropdown
Select a grade from the dropdown menu:
| Grade | Level | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| A / A- | Proficient | Excellent work, meets or exceeds expectations |
| B+ / B / B- | Developing | Good work, shows understanding |
| C+ / C | Emerging | Satisfactory, room for improvement |
| D | Needs Support | Below expectations, needs help |
| F | Incomplete | Not completed or major issues |
Writing Feedback
The feedback textarea is where you write encouraging comments for Lucas.

Effective Feedback Tips
- Be specific - "Your second paragraph had great details about the character" vs "Good job"
- Start positive - Lead with what Lucas did well
- Be constructive - Frame improvements as next steps, not failures
- Reference reflections - Address questions Lucas asked
- Keep it brief - 2-3 sentences is often enough
Example: "Great work showing your steps in the addition problems! I loved how you double-checked your answers. Next time, try the subtraction the same way."

Follow-Up Action
Select what happens next:

| No follow-up needed - Mastered | Lucas fully understands the concept |
| Brief review in next lesson (5-10 min) | Quick refresher would help |
| Additional practice needed (15-20 min) | Needs more practice with similar problems |
| Re-teach concept (full lesson) | Fundamental misunderstanding |
| One-on-one tutorial required | Complex issue needing focused attention |
| Extension activity (mastery achieved) | Ready for more challenging work |
Submitting Your Review
Return for Revision
- Write feedback explaining what needs fixing
- Click "🔄 Return for Revision"
- Lucas gets notified and sees "Try Again" card
- Work moves to Reviewed tab (status: returned)
Give Final Grade
- Select grade from dropdown
- Write encouraging feedback
- Check relevant strength/improvement areas
- Select follow-up action
- Click "✅ Give Final Grade"
- Lucas gets notified with grade

A modal appears with next steps:
- Review Next Assignment - Go to next pending submission
- Stay on This Page - Close modal, stay in teacher portal
- View Student Dashboard - See what Lucas sees
Tab badges update automatically to reflect the new counts.
