What Are Progressions?

A progression is an ordered sequence of drills that teaches a specific athletic skill step by step. For example, a "Throwing Accuracy" progression might start with basic grip, then short-distance throws, then long-distance throws, then accuracy drills.

Three-Panel Layout

The Progression Library uses a three-panel layout:

Panel Purpose
Left — Progressions List Browse and select progressions by name, skill focus, and step count
Middle — Available Drills Browse drills matching the selected progression's skill focus
Right — Progression Steps View and reorder the current progression's drill sequence

Creating a Progression

  1. Click "+ New" in the left panel header
  2. Enter the progression details:
    • Name — Descriptive title (e.g., "Throwing Accuracy Build-Up")
    • Skill Focus — The skill being developed (Throwing, Catching, Hitting, etc.)
    • Sport — Baseball, Basketball, or Fitness
    • Description — What this progression teaches
  3. Click Save to create the empty progression
  4. Now add drills as steps (see below)

Adding Drills to a Progression

With a progression selected, the middle panel shows drills matching its skill focus.

Add an Existing Drill

  1. Browse or search drills in the middle panel
  2. Click "Add to Progression" on any drill card
  3. The drill appears as a new step in the right panel

Create a New Drill

  1. Click "+ New Drill" in the middle panel
  2. Fill in the drill details: name, description, reps, sets, equipment, coaching cues
  3. Optionally check "Add to current progression" to immediately add it as a step
  4. Click Save
💡

Drill cards show the drill name, skill focus, reps x sets format, and equipment needed at a glance.

Reordering Steps

The order of steps matters — it defines the learning sequence from basic to advanced.

Drag and Drop

Grab the drag handle (the dotted icon on the left of each step) and drag it to a new position. Steps auto-renumber when you drop.

Remove Steps

Click the delete button on any step to remove it from the progression. The drill itself is not deleted — only its position in this progression.

Editing and Deleting Progressions

Edit a Progression

Click the Edit button in the progression header to update its name, skill focus, sport, or description.

Delete a Progression

Click the Delete button and confirm. This removes the progression and all its step associations. The drills themselves remain in the drill catalog.

⚠️
Deletion is permanent. Deleting a progression removes all step associations. The individual drills remain available in the drill catalog.

How Progressions Connect

Progressions integrate with other parts of the system:

  • Log Session — Link session drills to progression steps to track real-world practice
  • Annotation Studio — Attach demonstration video clips to specific drills
  • Build Your Week — Students select progressions as training blocks for their weekly plan
